The Dried Fruits are a culture with great tradition in the Algarve, Gregório Chorondo began marketing and transportation almond, figs and carob mainly for the industry in the Region Industries, his son Joaquim Chorondo followed this activity by installing a small processing carob in the locality of Tenoca in Boliqueime, where today stands the company’s headquarters. The facilities were growing and the company’s activity as well, it was then that in 1988, Joaquim Chorondo along with his two sons, Isaurindo Chorondo and Angelina Chorondo, decided to found the company Chorondo e Filhos, Lda.

The transformation of carob of ground and seed extraction has always been the “core business” of the company, this happens for several reasons; the Algarve is the only region of the country who produce carob, formerly existed in the Algarve some transformers and three Fabris units that transform the Seed Carob, at this time is only one in activity that is owned by Chorondo family, Industrial Farense, Lda.

The Company will have its 4th generation and to meet the commitments and to monitor its growth was necessary the acquisition in 1994 of “The Farense Industrial, Lda” and in 2000 the second plant processing Carob in São Brás de Alportel .

We have a processing capacity in the order of 30 000 tonnes / year, most of which goes to foreign markets.

Chorondo e Filhos, Lda is part of some business associations including the Mondial Carob Group – International Association of Carob transformers, NERA – Business Association of the Algarve Region, AIDA – Inter-professional Association for the Development of Production and Exploitation of Carob and develops projects with prestigious scientific institutions as INETI, IST and UALG.
